The Watchers of the Heavens

The Watchers of the Heavens: A Warning for the Millennium
And it came to pass in the latter days, when the children of men had filled the Earth and spread their knowledge across the lands, that the heavens sent forth a sign. A star that was not a star, a stone that moved with silent purpose, was seen upon the sky, and the wise among them called it 2024 YR4.
The scribes of the heavens, those who chart the paths of wandering lights, gathered together and said unto the people, “Lo, a great stone hurtles toward the Earth. Though its path is uncertain, there is a chance, however small, that it shall strike the world and bring calamity upon the nations.”
And some among the people trembled, for they remembered the days of old when fire fell from the firmament and cities were laid waste, when great waters covered the land, and when the Earth shook with wrath. But others scoffed, saying, “We have seen such signs before, and yet the Earth endures. Why should we fear?”
A Voice in the Wilderness
Then rose up a voice among the learned, one who understood the ways of the stars, and he cried out, “This is but one of many! For in the great millennia to come, more shall descend from the heavens, as they have in ages past. The sky is filled with wanderers, and some seek to strike the Earth as they have before.”
And the people said, “What shall we do? Shall we flee to the mountains? Shall we make supplication to the heavens?”
But the wise man answered, “Nay, for the days of omens and blind fate have passed. The Lord has given us wisdom, and our hands have wrought machines that may yet defend the Earth. Let us not cower in fear, but rise up and build a shield against the stones of the sky.”
The Council of the Nations
So the rulers of the nations were gathered together, and they debated amongst themselves. Some said, “We shall wait, for the chance is small, and the cost is great.” Others declared, “We must act, for though this stone may pass us by, the next may not.”
And there was division among them, for the hearts of men are slow to prepare for dangers they have not yet seen. But among them were those who remembered the wisdom of their fathers, who knew that calamity comes as a thief in the night, and that vigilance is the price of safety.
The Watchers of the Heavens
Then were appointed Watchers of the Heavens, men and women of great knowledge, who would chart the paths of the wanderers and sound the trumpet when danger drew near. And there arose among them builders and craftsmen who forged mighty engines to turn the wrath of the stars aside, so that the Earth may be preserved for the generations yet to come.
And it was written, “The wise prepare before the storm, but the foolish wait until the flood has come upon them.”
Thus, the children of men stood upon the edge of a great choice: to build or to delay, to act or to be idle, to guard the world or leave it to fate. And the heavens looked on, waiting to see what they would do.
